St.Jackus Chapel

St Jackus is also known as Hiacintas, a Dominican monk who lived in 1185-1257. A wooden chapel was built in 1501 to commemorate him outside the then Vilnius city territory. And it is not surprising because St. Jackus was known as a patron of travellers. The chapel was built by the brothers Dominicans. The chapel was renovated and rebuilt several times in 1762 and 1843. And in 1901, it was completely restored - a 2 m high and 130 kg copper statue of Jackus Dominykas was mounted on the chapel. Its author is B. Balzukevičius. The old sculpture is housed in the Church of the Apostles Philip and Jacob. In the right Jackus’ hand, there is a monstrance of his church and on the left - the sculpture of Blessed Mary with a baby. The triangular chapel is a three-door openwork. And it is unique and the only one of this kind in Lithuania.
