Vilnius Ghetto Jewish Massacre Site and Grave

There is a memorial monument in Buzaraistis forest, Vilnius district, outside Arvydai village, which has the following inscriptions in Lithuanian and Yiddish: ‘Here, in September 1943, the Hitlerians and their supporters killed 300 Jewish men, women and children. Let us forever remember the innocently killed.’ The Jewish labour camp in the Buzaraistis moor, near Bezdonys was set in summer 1941 and liquidated on 9 July 1943. Bruno Kittel, SS camp commander who came to the camp with the Gestapo, ordered to dig a pit, and the Jews lined up outside had to put their valuable items and money to the bag. Ten people were shot at the pit in each turn, and as the remaining people refused to leave the barracks, the latter was fired and grenades were thrown through the windows. According to various data, about 300 to 350 Jews were killed and buried in Vilnius ghetto.
