Veršvos Mound

In the territory of Kaunas district municipality, Šilainiai eldership, on the hills of the right bank of the Nemunas River, there is a Veršvos mound. The mound is quite steep with its high slopes, grown with bushes and single trees. It dates back to the 1,000 - 14^th century when the scientific expedition led by Vytautas Daugutis found a 1 m thick cultural layer of 1,000 BC - 14^th century. At the northern foot of the mound, there was a settlement dated back to the 13^th century. It was being explored between 1985 and 1986 and 1997. In its cultural layer of up to 1.5m thickness, various remains of buildings, iron knives, stone shears, rotating mill parts, and ax parts were found. Having explored the area of a settlement, it was destroyed when building Kaunas western detour in 1986.
