St. Michael the Archangel Church of Širvintos

In 1475, the first wooden church was built in Širvintos. Its construction was financed by the estate of Astikai family. The three sisters, Baghdona, Agnieska and Catherine, are considered to be the initiators of building this church. Construction of brick church was started in 1855 and lasted five years. The church architect is Tomas Tišeckis. St. Michael the Archangel Church, together with the Chapel of Rasos Cemetery, is one of the most prominent works of this architect. The church has classicism and baroque features with a rectangular plan, two towers and a high gable between them.
The interior has three vaults separated by pylons and it is vaulted. The fence of the sanctuary is made of a stone masonry with pillar gates. In the church, paintings of four evangelists, dating back to 1878, and credited to the painter Karolis Ripinskas, are attached to the central pylon of the nave. The church belongs to the Diocese of Kaišiadorys.
