Nikronys Stone with the Signs

There is a stone of Nikronys in the forest of Babraunininkai at Lake Verniejus. In the times of pagan Lithuania, sacrifices were probably offered here. This is evidenced by a man-made trench which always has at least a few drops of water. In the ancient times, people came from afar for this water. Some people moistened their eyes, while others used to drink it. The first written source mentioning the Nikronys Stone is the book “Pėdos akmenyje” (Feet in the Stone) written by Petras Tarasenka in 1958. A description of how the stone looked like and what signs were on it were depicted in details. The letters MOPT, an arrow, a cross, a coat of arms, and an arrow - all this inspire stories, speculations and discussions. But this is just the requisites and a coat of arms of Odynec, very respectable family in the past. MOPT is the Polish encryption of Michal Odyniec Podkomorzy Trocki (Mykolas Odyniecas, Trakai Subcamerary). Subcamerary is the judge who deals with the cases related to land boundaries.
