Ensemble of Kernavė Mounds

The Kernavė Mound Complex is not only the most beautiful Lithuanian mound but it has also been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004. The complex consists of more than 50 archaeological, historical and cultural monuments: the mound - Altar Hill, two pre-fortifications - Mindaugas’ Throne and Lizdeika Hill, papillary - Crew Hill, (names for mounds were given in the 19th century), about 0.4 km southeast of them, there is the Mound Kriveikiškis, as well as Kernavė repository, Kernavė castle barrage and Kernavė settlement. Based on the archaeological research conducted since 1979, mounds date back to the 6th-14th centuries. Only about 1.5% of the territory of the mound complex has been investigated today. The findings are protected by the Archaeological and History Museum of Kernavė.
