Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park

Kaunas Lagoon is the largest artificial water body in Lithuania, created in 1959 by damming the Nemunas. The regional park was created in 1992 to preserve the unique landscape of Kaunas Lagoon. Nearly 1,000 plant species are found in the park, nearly 50 of them are protected. The park has 25 species of fish, 16 amphibians and reptiles, 186 birds and 49 mammals. The large part of the regional park is declared an important area for bird protection, where the species of birds recorded in the Red Book hatch. There are more than 30 natural and cultural heritage values in the regional park. The Folk Life Museum of Rumšiškės and one of the greatest values of the regional park - Pažaislis Monastery ensemble, old woods and mounds, juniper valley and barrows that attract many visitors are located on the coast of Kaunas Lagoon.
