Juniper Valley

In 1958, in preparation for damming the Nemunas, it was decided to plant the slopes urgently, thus protecting them against water erosion and landslides. In 2004, Arlaviškės juniper Natura 2000 territory opened in the Arlaviškės Nature Reserve. There are even four species of junipers included in the Red Book, such as the Campanula Bononiensis, Dianthus Armeria, Gentiana Cruciata and Wild Garlic, in the territory. In the uplands of the juniper valley, on the cliff edge, there is a 1.3 km cognitive path. While walking, one can admire not only the junipers but also the nearby Kaunas lagoon, islands overgrown with woods, coasts and breath-taking healthy air. The air of juniper essential oils in this place is extremely pure. In 2016, it was recognised as the most beautiful walkway in Lithuania.
