Elniakampis, Velniakampis Mound

In Elniakamapis forest, Sudervė eldership, Vilnius district, close to lake Elniakampis, there is Elniakampis mound abridged by two small unnamed streams. It dates back to the 1st millennium. The mound is also known as Velniakampis or Geležiai. The mound site is elongated and has steep slopes of up to 24 m high. Formerly partly destroyed by arable lands, the mound is now densely covered with a coniferous forest planted in the 1960s. On the northern slope, there is a spring which is considered to have magical and healing powers by locals. Although the mound was officially registered in 2005, it still remains undiscovered by tourists in Elniakampis forest. During the archaeological research, dashed and rough ceramic articles were found on the mound. Legends say that there was a church or an orthodox church that caved in.
