Dusinėnai Barrow

The mounds in the forest near Dusinėnai village (Vilnius district) have been known for a long time. The first explorations took place here in 1951 and 1955. Literature mentions not only the barrows, but also the archaeological findings excavated by treasure hunters. The barrow dates back to the late 1st millennium - the early 2nd millennium. The barrow contains about 50 sandy mounds, located 1 m - 3 m to 10 m - 15 m apart from each other, in a flat forested area. Mounds in the barrows are 8 m - 10 m to 12 m in diameter and 0.3 m - 0.5 m to 1 m - 1.2 m high. Pits were dug in many mounds, some of them are surrounded by elongated pits or ditches at the base, while others are significantly flattened and slightly destroyed. There is Dusinėnai Barrow II nearby which contains about 90 mounds.
