Mound Bražuolė

Mound Bražuolė is located in the Hydrographic Reserve Bražuolė, on the right bank of the Stream Bražuolė, in the territory of Bražuolė village, Trakai district municipality. In the Middle Ages, there was a well-established wooden castle on the Mound Bražuolė, where the Grand Duke of Lithuania resided from the 13th to the 15th centuries, and Jogaila, King of Lithuania and Poland, was staying here since 1386.

On 6 July 1382, in this castle, Jogaila and the Teutonic Order signed a short-term agreement, named the Bražuolė Treaty, under which both parties to the agreement promised not to attack each other’s territories until 8 September 1382.

To the southwest from the mound, there are the remains of an ancient settlement, and on the south-western part of the mound, there are the remains of the midst of the 9-12th centuries which are called the Tombstones.
