Babtynas-Žemaitkiemis Manor

About 2 km away from Babtai, on the right side of the swift Nevėžis, there is Babtynas-Žemaitkiemis Manor set up in the 16th century. The manor was founded in the village of the same name by the Šiukštos family. By the mid of the 18th century, the manor and surrounding buildings were made from wood. Under the rule of the Prozors’ family, the era of brick buildings began in 1730. The manor with 28 rooms and a defensive tower was representative. Since 1830, the manor became another manor of Tiškevičiai family. The last owner of the manor General Vladas Nagevičius lived here from 1922 up to the emigration abroad in 1944. After the Soviet era, only 5 buildings of the whole manor complex which consisted of 20 buildings have remained. In 1999, the renaissance of the manor began when one Lithuanian entrepreneur purchased it.
